God's Purpose of Grace
I. Election is the gracious purpose of God, according to which He regenerates, sanctifies, and saves sinners. II. Election is perfectly consistent with the free agency of man, it comprehends all the means in connection with the end;(b) III. Election is a most glorious display, of God's sovereign goodness, being infinitely wise, holy, and unchangeable; (c) IV. Election utterly excludes boasting and promotes humility, prayer, praise, trust in God, and activation of free mercy; (d) V. Election encourages means to the highest degree; (e) VI. Election is ascertained by its effects in all who believe the gospel; (f) VII. Election is the foundation of Christian assurance; (g) VIII. To ascertain election with regard to ourselves demands and deserves our utmost diligence. (h)
